Tennis player Pradeep Khadka and athletics player Narayani Bhandari have been declared the best players of the year at the 10th Pokhara Sports Awards organized by the sports journalist Manch Gandaki.

Pradeep was declared the best player of the year in the men's category and Narayani in the women's category at the program organized in Pokhara on Thursday. Pradeep and Narayani, who became the best, also received a Hero Zoom scooter along with the award.

The final nominations in the men's category were Judo's Vigyan T Khatri and Volleyball's Sanju Bikram Shah. Judo's Manisha Tamang and Archery's Monica Rana Magar were nominated in the women's category.

Volleyball player Rajan Darlami Magar won the People's Choice Award. He also received a Hero Zoom scooter along with the award. Football's Deep Karki, Athletics' Narayani Bhandari, ITF Taekwondo's Sushmita Thapa Magar and Cricket's Bipit Khatri were nominated in the same category. Darlami became the winner based on the audience votes received through the Khalti app.

This year's Lifetime Achievement Award has been given to athletics player Tika Bahadur Bogati. Bogati, who has participated in the Olympics twice, was honored with a silver medal, a certificate and a dosalla.

Under the award, Kaski District Cricket Association was declared the best sports association of the year. Badminton player Nibha Rai was declared the emerging player of the year, para athlete Sushma Tamang was declared the special award, athletics' Siddhanta Adhikari was declared the best coach and Deenath Baral was declared the best sports journalist. They received a cash prize of Rs 35,000 and a certificate.

The award winners were honored by Gandaki Province Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey, Pokhara Metropolitan City Mayor Dhanraj Acharya and others.

At the program, Chief Minister Pandey said that despite limited resources, the provincial government is increasing investment in the sports sector. Stating that Gandaki Province is providing monthly allowances to athletes participating in the Olympics, he informed that the construction of a high-altitude playground in Mustang is progressing in collaboration with the association and the provincial government. ‘Our goal is to introduce Gandaki Province to the world through adventure sports,’ he said.

The Metropolitan Mayor said that Pokhara is establishing itself as a city of events and said that the Pokhara Sports Award has brought more excitement to the city’s sports activities. He also informed that discussions are underway in the executive committee on giving institutional guardianship to the award by Pokhara Metropolitan City.
