One thousand athletes are set to run in the seventh Jumla Rara Ultra Marathon. Preparations for the marathon, which is scheduled to be held on April 26, covering a distance of 54 kilometers from Jumla headquarters Khalanga to the edge of Rara Lake, have been completed.

The organizer Karnali Sports Club Jumla organized a press conference and informed that the preparations for the Jumla Rara Ultra Marathon have been completed.

So far, 135 athletes have registered their names for the Jumla Rara Ultra Marathon. Along with this, a 10 and 5 kilometer race will also be organized. 200 athletes have registered their names for the 10 kilometer and 600 athletes have registered their names for the 5 kilometer race. This time, one thousand athletes will run in three categories.

The first female and male athletes in the marathon will be awarded one lakh rupees in cash, gold medals and certificates. The second placer will be awarded Rs 75,000 and the third placer Rs 50,000. The club has also informed that from this time onwards, in memory of the late Amrita Kathayat of Jumla, the first, second and third placer women players will be awarded Rs 25,000 each. The best and most promising players will be included in the scholarship program by Balodaya Boarding Secondary School Kaski. The selection will be made by the Karnali Sports Club. According to the organizers, trees will be planted based on the number of players who reach from Jumla to Rara. The players participating in the race and those involved in the management have been provided with an accident insurance worth Rs 500,000. The marathon will start from Chandannath, Bhairavnath's courtyard, Khalanga Bazaar, Jumla and end at the Hutu side of Mugu and Raratal. In past competitions, players from various districts as well as Britain, the Netherlands, India, Italy, and America participated. Even now, the winners of the Manjushree Trail Race, players from India and France have arrived in Jumla.

The Jumla Rara Ultra Marathon is being organized every year to develop Jumla as a high-mountain sports training center and to increase public awareness about the importance of sports and develop sports culture in the entire society, said club president Saroj Shahi. ‘This marathon has encouraged newcomers from the Karnali region,’ he said, ‘This shows that there is potential for adventure sports tourism in Karnali too.’

Chief District Officer Deepak Poudel said that the Jumla Rara Marathon has contributed to introducing the beauty and potential of Karnali to the world. He said that this marathon will prove to be a stepping stone to develop the entire Karnali region as a sports region and establish it as a sports destination.
