The New Youth Union Cup club-level open football tournament has begun in Tansen, Palpa.

In the inaugural match of the tournament on Tuesday, Suryamukhi Football Club of Rupandehi started off with a 2-0 win over Pharsatikar Football Club. Shambhu Gharti and Sunil Thapa scored for Suryamukhi.

Sunil of Suryamukhi, who became the player of the match in the tournament, was presented with Rs 2,500 by Ward Chairman of Tansen Municipality-6, Sagarman Maharjan.

Tam Bahadur Kumal, the chairman of the organizer New Youth Union Club, said that the tournament was organized with the aim of developing sports at the local level and identifying youth talent.

Inaugurating the tournament, Mayor of Tansen Municipality Santosh Lal Shrestha said that the tournament would be important to bring more enthusiasm to sports activities.

Twelve clubs from Palpa, Rupandehi, and Nawalparasi are participating in the tournament.

The winner of the competition will receive Rs 155,555, the runner-up Rs 111,111 in cash, trophy, certificate, medal.

The best player will receive Rs 8,000, the best goalkeeper, emerging player, top scorer, and best defender will receive Rs 5,000 each. The player of the match of each match will receive Rs 2,500.
