Kantipur journalist Nayak Poudel has been awarded the Suman Bhomjan Memorial Youth Journalism Award, which is given every year by the Nepal Sports Journalists Forum.

Poudel, a correspondent for The Kathmandu Post, was awarded at a program organized on the occasion of the forum's 21st annual general meeting today, Sunday. Young journalist Nayak has a bachelor's degree in Communication and Journalism and a master's degree in English through The Rising Nepal. He had delivered excellent news coverage in the AFC Women's Asian Cup Qualifiers and the T-20 Cricket World Cup last year.

After receiving the award, he said, "I was able to receive this award due to the inspiration of senior journalists. I am confident that I will continue to receive such inspiration in the future."

On the same occasion, senior sports journalist Roshan Singh Raut was honored with the NSJF Senior Sports Journalism Award. National Sports Council Member Secretary Ramcharitra Mehta honored both journalists. Rautal was awarded a certificate along with Rs 35,000 and Poudel was awarded a laptop.   

Currently working as a journalist at Lokantar Online, Raut has spent nearly 3 decades in sports journalism. During that time, he has done on-site reporting from the South Asian Games to the Asian Games and from the FIFA World Cup qualifiers to the ACC Trophy.

After receiving the award, Raut said, 'I have received honors from various places. But this honor is very special for me. Because I received it from my own family.'

Member Secretary Ram Charitra Mehta congratulated the award-winning journalists and wished them the success of the forum's general assembly.

On the occasion, General Secretary of the Federation of Nepali Journalists Ram Prasad Dahal, President of the Nepal National and International Players Association Deepak Shrestha, President of the Nepal Olympian Association Deepak Bista expressed their best wishes.

President of the Nepal Sports Journalists Forum Niranjan Adhikari, during the vote of thanks, said that cooperation from all sectors is necessary to expand the scope of sports journalism.
