Machhindra Football Club has won the third Ilam Gold Cup title, beating the previous champion New Road Team Kathmandu.
Machhindra won the title by defeating NRT by a 2-0 goal margin in the final match held on Saturday. NRT is the winner of both the first and second editions of the Ilam Gold Cup.
Both teams, consisting of national and different age group players, played a goalless draw in the first half.
Machhindra took control of the game as soon as the second half started. Saurabh Subba scored a goal in the second minute of the half after the break to give the team the lead. Milan Chamling added another goal three minutes later to give Machhin a safe 2-0 lead. Which remained until the end of the match.
Machhindra received a cash prize of Rs 1 million along with a trophy, medal and certificate, while runner-up NRT settled for Rs 5 million in cash and a trophy.
Machhindra's goalkeeper Pradeep Bhandari was declared the 'Man of the Match' of the final match.
Similarly, NRT's Ashish Gurung, Machhindra's Yubaraj Dhakal, Machhindra's Milan Chamling, Machhindra's top scorer and Machhindra's Prabhesh Katuwal were declared the best defenders.
All the players in the best category were awarded a cash prize of Rs 15,000.
Host Red Horse Ilam's player Vivek Sunam was declared the emerging player and was awarded a cash prize of Rs 25,000. Similarly, Machhindra's Sanish Shrestha was awarded a cash prize of Rs 51,000 and a trophy as the best player.
Eight teams, including seven from Nepal and one from Malaysia, participated in the competition organized by Red Horse Club Ilam, which started on April 5.
