The Army has dominated the 'Second Lumbini National Open Men's and Women's 10-kilometer Road Race Competition-2083' held in Ghorahi on Saturday. Runners from the Nepali Army have come first in both the men's and women's categories.
Khadka Bahadur Khadka and Purna Lakshmi Neupane have emerged winners in the men's category and Purna Lakshmi Neupane in the women's category. In the competition organized by the Lumbini Provincial Sports Council, Khadka completed the 10-kilometer distance in 30 minutes and 33 seconds, while Neupane completed the 10-kilometer distance in 36 minutes and 33 seconds. Both the winners received 80,000/80,000 rupees, medals and certificates.
Similarly, in the men's category, Rupesh Karki of the Armed Police Force finished second in 31 minutes and 13 seconds, while Umesh Thapa of the Nepali Army came third in 31 minutes and 52 seconds.
In the women's category, Nirmala KC of the Nepali Army came second by covering the distance in 37 minutes 45 seconds, while Samjhana Gurung of the APF came third by covering the distance in 39 minutes 12 seconds. The second-placed male and female athletes were awarded Rs 45,000 and the third-placed athlete was awarded Rs 25,000, a medal and a certificate.
In the men's category, Akkal Pal of the Nepali Army came fourth by covering the distance in 32 minutes 2 seconds, while in the women's category, Phulmaya Rana of the APF came fourth by covering the distance in 39 minutes 41 seconds. Both the fourth-placed athletes were awarded Rs 15,000, a medal and a certificate. The top 10 men and women were awarded certificates.
Member Secretary of the Lumbini Province Sports Council, Tirandaj Gautam, said that the competition was organized with the aim of developing and promoting sports. He informed that more than a thousand athletes from all over the country from the Nepali Army, Armed Police Force, Nepal Police and the open group participated in the competition.
