The first SWU Open Volleyball Tournament has started at Jumla Multiple Campus.
In a time when volleyball tournaments have been in crisis in remote villages in recent times, SWU Jumla has organized the tournament to encourage players.
Chandannath Municipality Mayor Rajusinh Kathayat inaugurated the tournament on Wednesday. He said that the talent of players will be recognized through volleyball. He said, ‘The volleyball tournament is not just a sport but also a bridge for meeting and improving relationships between youth.’
Campus President Lokendra Budha informed that the tournament was organized to introduce Jumla Campus, exchange goodwill between students and teachers through sports, and establish brotherly relations.
Nine teams have participated in the tournament. The first place winner will receive a prize of Rs. 1 lakh 1 thousand 101 and the second place winner will receive a prize of Rs. 51 thousand 101.
Chairman Budha said that there is a lot of potential for volleyball in Jumla and now the game should be taken to the schools and settlements in remote areas. ‘Earlier, volleyball was in the villages. Football was in the cities,’ he said, ‘Now football has reached the villages. Volleyball started to disappear in the villages. This did not happen. Now it is time to organize volleyball competitions at every school, settlement and campus level.’
He also urged all 60 wards of the eight local levels of the district to prioritize volleyball and emphasize the production of good national players.
