The home team Samrat Sporting Club and Jhapa 11 are set to compete for the Virat Gold Cup title. Samrat came close to the title by defeating ‘A’ Division team Church Boys United by a margin of 3-0 in the final semi-final match held at the Shahid Maidan in Biratnagar on Thursday.
Earlier, Jhapa 11 had entered the final by defeating Nepal Police Club in the first semi-final match on Wednesday. Samrat, who are participating in the Virat Gold Cup for the first time, have managed to make it to the final.
Saurabh Tamang, Aditya Shakya and Vivek Rai scored 1-1 goals in Samrat’s victory. Saurabh Tamang of Samrat was declared the Player of the Match. He received a cash prize of Rs 11,000.
Saurabh scored in the 50th minute of the match to give the team an early lead. After the scheduled 90-minute match ended, Samrat scored 2 more goals in the 7-minute extra time to ensure the victory. Aditya Shakya doubled the team’s lead in the fourth minute of extra time. Less than 2 minutes later, Vivek Rai scored a goal, giving Samrat a 3-0 victory.
The first half of the match ended in a goalless draw. Samrat, who received a lot of support from the home crowd, came out on the field with an aggressive strategy from the beginning, but missed some beautiful opportunities in the first half. In the 29th minute of the match, Aditya Shakya's shot went just above the post, while in the 32nd minute, Ashish Chaudhary's shot from inside the D-box hit the post and hit the post.

On the other hand, Jhapa XI has already reached the final by beating Nepal Police and Tribhuvan Army. The final of the tournament will be played on Saturday. The winner will receive a cash prize of Rs. 1.1 million and the runner-up will receive Rs. 5 million.
