The departmental team Nepal Police Club has entered the semi-finals of the ongoing Birat Gold Cup football tournament in Biratnagar. 

Police has set its journey to the last four by defeating former champion Machhindra Football Club in a 'sudden death' in the exciting third quarterfinal held at the Shahid Maidan on Monday. After the scheduled 90 minutes and the added 30 minutes of extra time ended in a 1-1 draw, the match was decided by sudden death.  After both teams were tied 5-5 in the tiebreaker, the match was pushed to sudden death. 

When Police's Sujan Magar scored in the sudden death, Machhindra's Shyam Murmu's shot was saved by Police goalkeeper Shatrudhan Chaudhary. Goalkeeper Shatrudhan, who played an important role in helping Police win, was named the 'Player of the Match' of the match.  In the tiebreaker, Ram Vaji, Sanjeev Lama, Bharat Shah, John Bista and goalkeeper Shatrudhan Chaudhary scored for Police. Rohit Chand, Diwakar Chaudhary, Roman Bhujel, Vishal Bhandari and Devendra Tamang scored for Machhindra.

Earlier, Police had taken the lead in the 29th minute of the competitive match through Dhirendra Shah's goal. He took advantage of Osendra Katuwal's pass to give the team the lead. However, Police's lead did not last long. In the 34th minute of the match, Machhindra's Saurabh Limbu scored a header from inside the D-box to tie the game 1-1. The organizers have stated that the final quarterfinal match of the tournament will be held on Tuesday between the home team Samrat Sporting Club and Birsamunda Sports Academy in Jharkhand, India.
