Home team Samrat Sporting Club has entered the semi-finals of the Virat Gold Cup football tournament in its first appearance.

Samrat secured its place in the last four by defeating Birsamunda Sports Academy of Jharkhand, India, 3-1 in the final quarter-final held at the Shahid Maidan in Biratnagar on Tuesday. Samrat, who overcame a one-goal deficit to win, will now face Church Boys United on Baisakh 30 for a place in the final.

Birsamunda, who adopted an aggressive strategy from the start of the game, took the lead towards the end of the first half. Shankar Kisku scored in the 44th minute to give the visiting team a 1-0 lead. Samrat equalized in the 50th minute. Mausam Limbu converted Saurav Tamang's excellent cross pass from inside the D-box.
