The government led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah has pledged to develop sports as the backbone of national unity, pride and economic prosperity.

The government, as mentioned in point number 3 of the 100-point agenda on governance reform on May 21, made public an 18-point 'national commitment' prepared by incorporating the manifestos, pledges and commitments of the six nationally recognized political parties participating in the election.

Point number 16 of the commitment states that the sports sector will be developed as the backbone of national unity, human development, national pride and economic prosperity. The draft states that sports tourism will be promoted by organizing bilateral, regional and international games in Nepal. ‘Using sports as soft power, Nepal will be established as a regional and international event venue, improving Nepal’s international image and expanding diplomatic relations through cricket diplomacy,’ the commitment states, ‘Political appointments in sports administration will be completely abolished and professional leadership and a transparent budget system will be implemented.’ A commitment has been made to complete the infrastructure under construction in the sports sector and to build modern and fully accessible sports infrastructure at the provincial level.

The draft states that sports will be developed as a profession, and excellent players will be produced by periodically conducting sports competitions at the school level, provincial level, and national level, and that high priority will be given to competitions and player training, and that training will be made scientific, technical, and result-oriented. In addition, women’s and inclusive sports will be promoted. To end the situation where players have to flee from the relevant sports, arrangements will be made to ensure that they receive regular leagues, proper remuneration, and prize money on time.

It is stated that the unfinished stadiums will be completed on time and state-of-the-art and fully accessible sports infrastructure will be built in all seven provinces, and political appointments in sports administration will be completely abolished, and professional leadership and a transparent budget system will be implemented.

There is a commitment to make school sports an integral part of the curriculum through talent identification programs from the school level. Emphasis has been placed on promoting Nepal's original potential such as adventure sports and ultra marathons as national pride. Priority will be given to the construction of disability-friendly sports infrastructure, and sports will be developed as an industry, and the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Stadium will be upgraded according to international standards.

It is stated that Nepal will be established as a sports hub in South Asia.

The draft states that the national commitment will be linked to the annual policies and programs, budgets and reform agendas for the fiscal year 2083/84 and subsequent years.
