Gorkha Boys Sports Club Butwal has started the inaugural match of the MT Arena First Khajura Gold Cup Football Tournament starting from Monday. Gorkha Boys started the match by defeating Sankata Sports Club Kathmandu by 1-0 in the first match held at the Mini Stadium in Digaun.
With the victory, Gorkha Boys have secured their semi-final journey. Nirajan Khatri scored a goal in the 14th minute of the match to give the team the victory. Nirajan, who was named the 'Player of the Match', received a trophy, medal and certificate along with a cash prize of Rs 10,000.
The tournament was organized by New Danfe Sports Club and under the patronage of Khajura Rural Municipality.
The program was attended by the coordinator of the tournament and New Danfe Sports Club President Balaram Khatri, Khajura Rural Municipality President Dambar Bahadur BK, Municipality Vice President Manju Malla and guests. Before the inauguration of the competition, a tableau was set up with traditional music.
Competition coordinator Khatri informed that 8 teams participated in the competition. The competition, which is played on a knockout basis, will be held until Baisakh 6. The winning team of the competition will receive a trophy, medal and certificate along with a cash prize of 700,000 rupees, and the runner-up will receive a trophy, medal and certificate along with a cash prize of 400,000 rupees.
The prize money to be given to the first-place team in the competition was provided by Khajurabasi Lil Bahadur Thapa, who is in the US, according to the competition's publicity coordinator Khagendra Dahal. According to him, an entry fee of 50 rupees per person has been fixed to observe the competition.
