Church Boys United has entered the semi-finals of the Birat Gold Cup football tournament. In the second quarter-final match held at the Shahid Stadium in Biratnagar on Sunday night, Church Boys managed to secure a place in the last 4 by defeating the departmental team APF Football Club 1-0.
Forward Samir Tamang scored the decisive goal to take Church Boys to the semi-finals. In the 28th minute of the first half, the ball Samir hit was converted into a goal by touching the foot of APF player Suraj Gurung. Samir was named the 'Player of the Match' of the match. He was presented with a cash prize of Rs 11,000 by Sushila Pathak, President of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists, Morang.
The organizer has stated that another departmental team, Nepal Police Club, will compete against Machhindra Football Club in the third quarter-final match on Monday under the tournament. Earlier, Jhapa 11 Football Club has entered the semi-finals by defeating Tribhuvan Army Club in the inaugural match held on Saturday night.
