The Nepal Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association has expressed serious concern over the comments made on social media by Karan KC, a national player playing for Nepal Police Club in the Prime Minister's (PM) Cup Cricket National Tournament.
Bagmati captain Sandeep Lamichhane and on-field umpire Kamlesh Thakur had an argument over not giving out in the match between Bagmati and Madhesh Pradesh on Friday in Birgunj. Bagmati medium-pacer Pratish GC appealed for an LBW out against Adil Alam Ansari, but the umpire rejected it.
Karan had commented on a post published on Friday by a Facebook page named 'Troll Cricket' about the argument between Sandeep and umpire Thakur on Saturday, saying, 'If a player hits an umpire by mistake, how many matches will he be suspended?' Just asking?.. For the knowledge and safety of the players.’
But the Umpires and Scorers Association has strongly condemned Karan’s action in a statement on Saturday. Mohammad Shafiq (Samir Khan), the president of the association and a match referee, said, ‘Our serious attention has been drawn to the statements made by Nepal Police Club and national player Karan KC on social media regarding the umpire’s decision, after an emergency meeting of the Nepal Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association, and we strongly condemn such condemnable actions.’
The Umpires Association has concluded that such statements have hurt our professional security and self-respect. The association has demanded strict action from the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) to discourage such actions.
There was no match in the PM Cup on Saturday. An umpire said that the umpires and scorers are going to boycott the competition if CAN does not take action against the players found guilty in the recent incidents.
