Golden Gate Basketball Club became the Himalayan Java Basketball League (HJNBL) champion on Saturday. In the final held at the Rakhep Covered Hall in Tripureshwor, Golden Gate lifted the title by defeating departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club by a score of 95-74.
Golden Gate avenged its defeat to Army in the league stage. Earlier, Army defeated Golden Gate in the league stage and the first qualifier. Golden Gate, which took a 24-14 lead in the first quarter, took the second quarter 17-12 in its favor. Golden Gate, which scored 27-25 in the third quarter, won the game by 27-23 in the fourth quarter. Golden Gate's Zain Khan was declared the Player of the Match.
Eight teams competed in the tournament organized by the Nepal Basketball Association (NEBA) under the main sponsorship of Himalayan Java. The top four teams in the double round-robin league played the playoffs.
The winner Golden Gate received Rs 400,000 and the runner-up Army received Rs 200,000. The winner of the first edition, Times Basketball Club, came third. The third-placed Times received Rs 100,000. Nikesh Rakhal Magar of Golden Gate, who performed well throughout the tournament, was adjudged the Most Valuable Player.
