Nepal Police Club defeated Karnali Province by 48 runs in the group stage match of the Prime Minister's Cup National Cricket Tournament held in Birgunj on Thursday. Police performed well in the match held at the TB Shah Cricket Ground in Birgunj and earned two important points.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Police scored a strong total of 261 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 50 overs. Although the start was a bit stressful, the middle order took charge of the innings. Opener Dinesh Kharel batted patiently and scored 82 runs in 100 balls. He stabilized the innings and led the team to a big score. Supporting him, Amit Shrestha contributed 30 runs in 32 balls. The other batters made the score competitive by putting up small partnerships.
Prakash Jaishi was the most successful bowler for Karnali. He took 3 wickets for 57 runs in his 10-over spell. Anuj Chanara also bowled economically and took 2 wickets for 36 runs in 6 overs. Chasing a target of 262 runs, Karnali Pradesh felt the pressure from the start. The team could not get back into the game after losing wickets at regular intervals. He destroyed Karnali's middle and lower order, turning the game in Police's favor. Fast bowler Karan KC also provided good support and took 3 wickets for 29 runs in 9 overs. Lalit Rajbanshi was declared the 'Player of the Match' for his outstanding bowling performance.
