The 16th edition of the international invitational Itahari Gold Cup football tournament is set to be held at night. The organizer, Rastriya Jagriti Club, announced through a press conference on Wednesday that the night tournament will be held from Chaitra 30 to Baisakh 7.

Eight Nepali teams, including two foreign teams, will participate in the Gold Cup. Earlier, the 14th edition was also held at night, while the 15th edition was held during the day.

Floodlights were installed on the east and west sides of the Itahari stadium three years ago for the night tournament. Although the Koshi Province Sports Development Board provided Rs 8 million for this, the organizers have stated that temporary lights will be installed in the remaining places as no budget has been allocated from any body since then.

The winner of the tournament, which will run for a week, will receive Rs 1 million in cash and the runner-up will receive Rs 500,000. Coordinator Anuradha Thapa said that the highest scorer in the tournament will receive Rs 25,000. The best player will receive Rs 100,000. The best player in various categories will receive Rs 20,000 and the player declared 'Man of the Match' will receive Rs 10,000.

According to club president Keshav Karki, the estimated cost of the competition, which will be organized by Itahari Sub-metropolitan City, is Rs. 8.85 million. Itahari Sub-metropolitan City has allocated Rs. 1.8 million for the competition. It is estimated that Rs. 2.5 million will be collected from local donors and ticket sales. The main sponsor of the competition is Red Bull.

The opening match of the competition will be held on Chaitra 30 between Just Zone FC of Nigeria and Yuba Samaj Sundarharaicha. The second match will be held on Baisakh 1 between Machhindra FC, Kathmandu and Jhapa-11 FC.

Similarly, on Baisakh 2, there will be a competition between Rastriya Jagriti Club, Itahari and Satdobato Youth Club, Lalitpur, while on Baisakh 3, the schedule for the match between Planning Boys FC, Kathmandu and United Kharsang FC of India has been made public.

The semi-final matches will be held between the winning teams of the first round on Baisakh 4 and 5. The final match of the competition will be held on Baisakh 7, according to the organizers.
