The New York-based Gift of Chess announced on Thursday that Khambu has been appointed as an ambassador. With this, the 34-year-old Khambu becomes the first Nepali ambassador for the international organization in chess.

The United Nations (UN)-accredited American organization ‘The Gift of Chess’ has announced the founder of the Himalayan Chess Academy, Monalisa Khambu, as its ambassador for Nepal.

The New York-based Gift of Chess announced the appointment of Khambu as its ambassador on Thursday. With this, the 34-year-old Khambu has become the first ambassador for Nepali chess of an international organization. The Gift of Chess said that Monalisa was selected as the ambassador for her achievements on and off the board.

Posting the story of Monalisa’s journey of more than two decades in chess, the Gift of Chess also mentioned that she will distribute 1,000 chess sets to schools, prisons and community centers in Nepal through her. Monalisa is the first national chess champion for women. Since she established the Himalayan Chess Academy two years ago, she has trained more than 200 people and has competed in more than a dozen tournaments.
