With the dream of a world-class cricket stadium awaiting construction, Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Youth and Sports Sasmit Pokharel bowled and batted with lawmakers at the FAPLA ground in Dhangadhi on Tuesday morning. During the match, he himself laughed and also enthused cricket enthusiasts and campaigners for the construction of FAPLA.

Minister Pokharel, who landed at Dhangadhi Airport and went straight to FAPLA, not only inspected FAPLA, but also discussed the situation there with stakeholders. He said that he was aware of the high attraction towards cricket in the Far West and mentioned that the government has promoted FAPLA as a national pride project. “I know that there is a great interest in cricket in the Far West. We are working hard to ensure resources for the construction of FAPLA,” said Minister Pokharel. Subash Shahi, Chairman of the FAPLA International Cricket Ground and Sports Village Infrastructure Construction and Development Committee, presented the progress report of the stadium so far.

The entire process including the DPR to build a world-class cricket stadium with a capacity of 50,000 spectators, a football field, a gymnasium, a swimming pool, an indoor hall, a hotel and other international-level physical infrastructure, parking, training building, media center, etc. in FAPLA has already been approved.

The FAPLA International Cricket Ground and Sports Village Development Committee formed by the government has prepared the Detailed Project Report (DPR) in 2081 Asoj and the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in 2082 Asajr and has been approved by the concerned ministry. According to the DPR, not only a cricket stadium but also a multi-purpose sports village will be built in FAPLA.

According to the Development Committee Chairman Subash Shahi, the project, which will cost around Rs 26 billion, has been prepared. "The government is now waiting for the budget allocation and the contract process to proceed," Shahi said. "FAPLA is a game-changer project that will take the poverty-stricken Far West Province to the path of economic prosperity."

The government had decided to build an international cricket ground and sports village in FAPLA in 2078 Magh and provided 260,919 square meters of land. The government's meeting on the same day also decided to form the FAPLA International Cricket Ground and Sports Village Development Committee under the chairmanship of cricket engineer Subash Shahi to take forward infrastructure development and other works. The committee had prepared a pre-feasibility study report in 2079 Ashar.

Although the construction of the sports village will cost 26 billion and take 5 years, preparations are being made to work in two phases. The development committee has stated that an international cricket tournament can be held in the first phase by constructing a structure at a cost of 11 billion.

Businessmen say that if FAPLA is built, it will make a great contribution to the economic development of the Far West. During the recently concluded elections, Ananda Bahadur Chand, the MP elected from Kailali 5, sought votes by making the construction of FAPLA his main priority. Chand, elected from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), says, “The construction of the FAPLA project opens the door to economic development in the Far West. We are making every effort to prioritize it in the upcoming budget.”
