The eighth edition of the Bagmati Gold Cup National Football Tournament is scheduled to be held in the second week of Baisakh.

The tournament, organized by the Bagmati Rural Municipality Sports Development Committee located in the eastern region of Makawanpur, will feature 10 teams, including 6 from the A Division, 3 from the Mofusal, one foreigner and the host. The organizers have stated that preparations for the tournament are underway at full speed.

The A Division team, including the previous winner Church Boys, Machhindra, Armed Police Force (APF), Tribhuvan Army Club, Friends Club, Planning Boys, Malaysia's Penang FC, Sarlahi's Bagmati Youth Club, Simara's Nawajanajagruti Youth Club and the host team will compete for the title.

The tournament will be held at the Shahid Smriti Stadium Jhurjhure under the main sponsorship of Bagmati Rural Municipality. The venue of the tournament is about 45 kilometers east of Hetauda. The organizer, Bagmati Rural Municipality Sports Development Committee Chairman Rahar Singh Thing, informed that the estimated cost of the competition is around Rs 7.8 million. According to him, the winner and runner-up of the competition will receive Rs 10 and Rs 500,000 respectively.

The best player will receive Rs 100,000 in cash and the best goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, forward and coach in each category will receive Rs 25,000. The man of the match player of each match will be awarded Rs 10,000 in cash.

In the case of foreign players participating in the competition, a ‘work permit’ has been made mandatory. ‘Our competition is included in the ANFA calendar.’ Therefore, we will conduct the competition completely according to the rules of ANFA,’ said Chairman Thing. He said that the match schedule will be made public in a few days.

According to Municipality Chairman Sarkesh Ghalan, preparations have been made to operate a football academy at the competition venue in collaboration with the committee from Baisakh in terms of football player production. ‘We have built the necessary infrastructure to operate the football academy. Now we will search for the best players and arrange daily training including a hostel,’ said Municipality Chairman Ghalan.

According to him, the academy is being operated as per the plan to produce skilled footballers for the nation. ‘To be a good football player, one must have trained at the academy.’ For that, we are going to operate the academy,’ he said.
