Minister for Education, Science and Sports Sasmit Pokharel has said that the government is discussing the issue of allocating the maximum budget in the coming fiscal year for the construction of the Fapla International Cricket Stadium in Dhangadhi. After an on-site inspection of the stadium on Tuesday, Minister Pokharel informed that coordination and discussions are underway with all stakeholders to proceed with the construction work. Minister Pokharel said that despite the challenge of budget management, the government has prioritized the Fapla Stadium, considering the overall economic situation of the country, as resources are needed in various sectors. Minister Pokharel said that the government has taken the Fapla Stadium forward as a national pride project and said that he is aware of the high attraction towards cricket in the Far West. “There is a great interest in cricket here, keeping that in mind, we are working to ensure resources for construction,” he said.

FAPLA International Cricket Stadium and Sports Village Infrastructure Development Committee Chairman Subash Shahi presented the progress report of the stadium to Minister Pokharel. He informed that all the preliminary preparations for the construction of the stadium have been completed. ‘Land has been acquired, DPR has been prepared and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) has also been approved,’ said Chairman Shahi. ‘Recently, this project has also been included in the ‘Project Bank’ of the National Planning Commission.’

He said that the construction work will proceed as soon as the budget source is ensured as the government is positive. ‘Since the budget size of this project is large, there are positive signs that not only the Ministry of Sports but also the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure, Ministry of Tourism and the Prime Minister’s Office are taking special interest in moving forward with the project,’ he said. Chairman Shahi informed that discussions are also underway to invite tenders for the construction within the next fiscal year.
