Sanjay Limbu and Aditya Shakya scored one goal each in Pathari's victory in the competition held at the local Judges' Stadium Bharal. Sanjay scored a goal in the 26th minute for Pathari, who kept the Jhapa team under pressure throughout the first half.
Jhapa, which was trailing 1-0 in the first half, came back in the 10th minute of the second half. The game was tied after Ghanshyam Karki scored a spectacular header from Rajesh Dahal's pass. But in the 31st minute of the second half, Aditya scored a goal from Milan Rai's pass, giving Pathari a clear 2-1 victory.
Aditya was declared the man of the match and won Rs 5,000 in cash. The second quarterfinal match of the tournament on Tuesday will be between the visiting team, Malaysia's RT FC, and Itahari's Young Brothers Club, according to the organizers.
Eight teams, including two foreign clubs, are participating in the tournament, which will run until Chaitra 29. The winner of the tournament will receive Rs 400,000 and the runner-up will receive Rs 200,000. The best player in the tournament will receive Rs 25,000 and the best player in the category will receive Rs 10,000 each, according to the organizers.
