The 14th edition of the Kantipur Half Marathon is scheduled to be held on Saturday, April 5. The Kantipur Half Marathon, organized by Kantipur Media Group (KMG), will feature four categories. The marathon, presented by Global IME Bank, is powered by Extreme Energy Drinks.

The Kantipur Half Marathon will be 21.1 km long. Similarly, the other three categories are Corporate and Influencer Run of 5 km, Extreme College Run of 7 km, and Wheelchair Race of 3 km, said KMG Chief Executive Officer Mahesh Swarn at a press conference held on Monday. The slogan of this year's Kantipur Half Marathon is 'Run for Nepal'.

The male and female winners of the main category of the Kantipur Half Marathon will receive 150,000 each. Similarly, those who come second to sixth will receive 75, 50, 30, 20 and 10 thousand rupees respectively. The first 3 places will also receive trophies and medals. The winner of the wheelchair race will receive 35 thousand and the second and third place winners will receive 25 and 15 thousand respectively. The top 3 finishers in the Corporate and Influencer Run and College Run for both men and women will receive various prizes and gift hampers. From this time on, everyone who finishes the race will receive medals. The winner of the Extreme College Run will be provided with a round-trip air ticket from Kathmandu to the venue for the IPL and a ticket to watch the game, said Sonia Rana, Business Head of Extreme Energy Drinks.

The 'Kantipur Half Marathon', which will start from Tinkune, where Kantipur's office is located, will pass through Tinkune, Koteshwor, Jadibuti, Lokanthali, Gatthaghar, Thimi, Sallaghari, Jagati Chowk, Koteshwor, and end at Tinkune, said race coach RK Bista. The Corporate and Influencer Race will start from Tinkune, return from Lokanthali bridge, pass through Koteshwor, and end at Tinkune. The Wheelchair Race, which will start from Tinkune, will reach Koteshwor, return, and end at Tinkune. The College Run will pass through Koteshwor, reach Gatthaghar Chowk, return, pass through Koteshwor, and end at Tinkune.

Stating that KMG is trying to organize it in a sophisticated manner every year, Swar said that from this year, they will use technology to get ‘accurate timing’ of those who complete the race towards the half marathon.

KMG Chief Executive Officer Swar said that this time, 3,000 to 5,000 runners are expected to participate in the Kantipur Half Marathon, which was held in the first edition in 2067 BS. Kanchhi Maya Koju has won the Kantipur Half Marathon title 5 times in the women's category. Harikumar Rimal has won the Kantipur Half Marathon four times in the men's category. Last year, Khadak Bahadur Khadka of Tribhuvan Army Club and Santoshi Shrestha of Dhading became the winners of the Kantipur Half Marathon. The organizers have stated that only players who have reached the age of 18 will be able to participate in the half marathon.
