Defending champion Sunira Thapa has won the women's singles title of the 8th Butwal Open National Lawn Tennis Tournament in Butwal. The final match for the men's singles title is being held on Friday between Ayushman Ghale and Pranab Manandhar.

On Thursday, defending champion Sunira Thapa of Kathmandu defeated Prakriti Shrestha in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 in the final. Thapa, participating in the seventh edition for the first time, defeated Abhilasha Bista in the final and won the title for the first time.

In the final held at Butwal Tennis Court on Thursday, Thapa took control of the game from the first set. Thapa maintained her lead and won the first set 6-2. Thapa maintained her spirit in the second set as well and defeated Shrestha with a score of 6-2 to become the champion.

The winner Thapa received a cash prize of Rs 60,000. The runner-up Shrestha received a cash prize of Rs 30,000. The winners and runners-up were presented with prizes and cups by former Nepal Tennis Association President Manoj Rana, Rupandehi Tennis Association President Bishnu Prasad Chapagain, competition coordinator Machhindra Thapa and others.

In the first semi-final of the men's singles held on Thursday, Ayushman Ghale defeated Nishan Shrestha 6-1, 7-5, and in the second semi-final, Pranab Manandhar defeated Rajbir Pradhan 6-2, 6-4 to secure a place in the final. In the final of the seventh edition of the competition, Pradeep Khadka and Ritik Rana faced each other, and Khadka won the title. As both these players did not participate in the eighth edition, the competition will have a new winner.

Similarly, Kamal Bahadur Bhandari and Anis Sai will face each other in the final of the 35-year-old singles. In the first semi-final, Anil Sai defeated Vikas Khadka 6-4 and 6-4, and in the second semi-final, Kamal Bahadur Bhandari defeated Dawa Sonam Sherpa 6-1 and 7-6 to secure a place in the final.
