The Nepal Women's Chamber under the Nepal Chamber of Commerce honored Taekwondo Olympian Sangina Baidya on Thursday.
Sangina was honored along with 75 first women from various fields at a program organized on the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce.
Sangina represented Nepal by qualifying for the 2004 Athens Olympics. Sangina is not only the first woman to compete in the Olympics but also the first athlete from Nepal overall.
Sangina, a gold medalist at the 1996 Asian Taekwondo Championship held in Melbourne, Australia, also won gold medals at the 8th and 9th South Asian Games.
Former President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, Nepal Chamber Women's Committee Chair Urmila Shrestha and others honored Sangina with certificates of appreciation.
