The work of the Diktel Football Stadium under construction in Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality-1 Matikore has been stalled. Sports activities have been affected as the stadium has not been completed on time.

The contract agreement was signed by Ashirwad-Mohan and Gaunbensi-Indralakshmi Construction JV on 29th Baisakh 2079 at a cost of 29.641 crore rupees for the Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality to be completed by 28th Baisakh 2081.

But after the work was not completed, the executive meeting of last Chaitra 8 extended the deadline until 2083 Ashar, said Mohan Kumar Bhattarai, Information Officer of the Municipality. The mobilization of the project had started with an advance payment of 29.64 lakh rupees.

Joseph Rijal, who is involved in the construction, has said that the work could not be completed on time due to changes in the DPR and unavailability of land as per the DPR. According to him, initially a DPR of size seven was prepared and then an DPR of size eleven was prepared. Rijal claims that the work was delayed due to the unavailability of land as per the latest DPR. ‘Initially there was a DPR of size seven, then an DPR of size eleven was prepared, the work was delayed due to the unavailability of land as per the latest DPR,’ said Rijal.

Stating that the work was delayed due to the municipality’s failure to provide land on time, information officer Bhattarai said that he is optimistic that the work will be completed within the latest extended time period as the land has been made available.

Sports enthusiasts have complained that the players are facing problems due to the lack of a playground. There has been widespread opposition to the stalling of the under-construction stadium in the district headquarters of Diktel. ‘It is a matter of regret that the under-construction stadium is also stalled,’ said Dhruv Bikram Rai, president of the Khotang District Football Association. ‘The deadline has been extended for another year, and the construction business has been requested to complete it within that period.’
