The seventh edition of the Jumla-Rara Ultra Marathon is scheduled to be held on Baisakh 26. The Jumla-Rara Ultra Marathon is being organized by the Karnali Sports Club Jumla.
The Jumla-Rara Marathon has been held every year to introduce the beauty of Karnali through sports and to recognize the talent of athletes. Local, national and foreign athletes also participate in this marathon.
Runner Hari Bahadur Rokaya said that the Jumla-Rara Marathon has become a means of attracting the youth of remote areas to athletics. He said, ‘This is not just a race. This is also a campaign to introduce the beauty of Karnali.’ According to him, the athletes who have won the title in the Jumla-Rara Marathon so far are participating in marathons held in the country and abroad and are also occupying good positions.
The marathon, which will start from the main tourist destination of Karnali, Chandannath Bhairavnath Temple, will end at Rara Lake via Danphelek, Kavragufa, Bhulbhulek and Chuchemara Lake. Karnali Sports Club President Saroj Shahi said that the marathon has focused the attention of athletes from home and abroad on Karnali. He said, ‘The marathon has been giving the message that Karnali is not only remote but can also achieve prosperity through sports.’
The registration fee for local athletes participating in the marathon has been fixed at Rs 3,000. Chairman Shahi informed that the registration fee for other runners has been fixed at Rs 5,000. The first placer will receive Rs 100,000, the second placer Rs 75,000 and the third placer Rs 50,000. The fourth and fifth placers will receive Rs 20,000 as an incentive. Registration can be done till Baisakh 20. Chairman Shahi informed that the team will go to Rara for technical studies of the marathon.
