The first International Tai Chi Day was celebrated with grandeur at the Patan Durbar Museum. The program was jointly organized by the Nepal Tai Chi Chuan Federation, China Culture Center and Nepal Araniko Society on March 21st, as part of the celebration of Tai Chi Day around the world.
On the day celebrated with the slogan ‘Fit for Life, Go for Tai Chi’, more than 100 national/international players from Nepal exhibited Tai Chi art in various genres.
In which Patan Museum and Lalitpur exhibited basic Tai Chi, players from Nepal Tai Chi Center presented Bafaufu form, 8 form and 13 form. Similarly, Angbabu Lama, the gold winner of the South Asian Games, and Sunij Shrestha, the silver winner of the second Tai Chi International Competition, and Amir Lama presented 42 forms.
The Taichi sword performance of SAFF silver medalist Macharatna Maharjan was a highlight. On the same occasion, Grand Master Wu Win, former vice president of the Chinese Wushu Federation and president of the Beijing Wushu Institute, sent a video message of the success of the program. The chief guest of the ceremony, Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City Chiribabu Maharjan, honored Karma Lama, the founder of Taichi in Nepal.
After the Wushu performance, the Inner Mongolian Artist Group gave various musical performances, while Taichi player Rizha Shree Maharjan presented a violin performance. The inspiring speech of 82-year-old player Annapurna Kunwar to young players attracted the attention of many.
At the program, Sushil Prajapati, President of Nepal Araniko Samaj, and Liu Chan Fing, Deputy Director of China Culture Center, provided information about the characteristics of Tai Chi. On the same occasion, trainer Macharatna Maharjan, who is also the President of Nepal Tai Chi Chuan Federation, said that the federation has a plan to expand Tai Chi to produce healthy citizens by reaching different areas of Nepal.
Supporting his plan, the chief guest of the program, Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan, expressed his commitment to support the metropolis to expand Tai Chi, which makes citizens physically and mentally healthy.
He said, “When I traveled to many places in the world, look at the children who have done Tai Chi. The metropolis is ready to extend its hand to take this sport that produces healthy citizens from Lalitpur to other places in the country.”
Nepal Tai Chi Chuan Federation has been conducting Tai Chi training in various places in Kathmandu.
