The fifth tournament under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2025-26 and the 26th Surya Nepal Western Open will begin at the Himalayan Golf Course in Pokhara from Wednesday.

26 professionals and 16 amateurs will compete in the tournament organized by the Nepal Professional Golfers Association (NPGA). The three-day tournament will consist of 54 holes. The cut will be implemented after the end of the second day. The top 18 pros and amateurs will make the cut for the last 18 holes. The Pro-Am event will be held on Saturday.

The total prize money has been increased this time in the tournament sponsored by Surya Nepal Pvt. Ltd. The winner of the tournament with a prize money of 10.50 lakh will receive 170 thousand rupees, the second will receive 125 thousand rupees and the third will receive 100 thousand rupees. The top 18 pros will also be entitled to cash prizes.

Defending champion and Nepal number one pro golfer Neeraj Tamang, along with course record-holder Bhuvan Nagarkoti, Sanjay Lama and Jayaram Shrestha are seen as the main contenders. They are expected to challenge amateur golfer Rahul Bishwakarma.

The attractive course, with panoramic views of the Machhapuchhre Himal and the banks of the Vijayapur River, is considered one of the most challenging golf courses in Nepal. This course has been recognized by Golf Digest as one of the adventure golf courses. The Himalayan Golf Course has been prepared for this tournament. The first and second holes of the 16-hole par-69 course will be played twice.

NPGA President Rabindraman Shrestha said that he was happy to organize this tournament for the 26th consecutive year and expressed confidence that professional and amateur golfers would perform excitingly and competitively.
