NOC Vice President and Lumbini International Peace Marathon Coordinator Ashok Ratna Vajracharya said that the Lumbini Peace Marathon is inspired by the International Day of Sports for Development and Peace, which is celebrated worldwide on April 6 every year.
NOC has been organizing this race in Lumbini, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, for the past four years, in line with the objective of continuing Nepal's commitment to promoting peace, unity and sustainable development through sports.
According to Coordinator Vajracharya, the Lumbini Peace Marathon has been established as a major program of NOC. Coordinator Vajracharya hopes that the Lumbini Peace Marathon will help raise Nepal's standard in long-distance running and boost the morale of the athletes.
In the last edition, Anish Thapa Magar won the men's marathon and Santoshi Shrestha won the women's half marathon.
