Opener Sanju Samson wants to play another innings that will help India win the T20 World Cup. His 89 was crucial as India defeated England in the second semi-final of the tournament. He faced only 42 balls in that process.

Jacob Bethell scored a century for England, but the team lost by seven runs. India will now face New Zealand in the title clash on Sunday. In that title clash to be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India has the opportunity to become the defending champion for the first time.

Not only that, if India succeeds in this task, it will become the most successful team in the history of the tournament, as three-time winners. Samson has now emerged as a key player for India, who were strong contenders for the title even before the tournament.

He scored an unbeaten 97 runs in the Super Eights decider against the West Indies, that too without losing. Against England, he hit 8 fours and 7 sixes. He says, ‘I am very happy now, I have been dreaming of playing for my country for a few years now. So I am very grateful, but I think we still have to take a decisive step.’

He adds, ‘Only if that actually happens will all the work we have done now be meaningful. So I want to be able to play another match-winning innings like this.’ The 31-year-old Samson, who has been in and out of the Indian team, played only one match in the group stage of the tournament, against Namibia. That too after Abhishek Sharma fell ill. India gave Samson another chance in the Super Eights match against Zimbabwe.

The reason for this was that the pair of left-handed batsmen Abhishek and Ishan Kishan for India were not able to find a rhythm. Samson, who made his debut for India in 2015, has played 61 T20 matches so far. He also believes that not getting a regular opportunity in the Indian team has motivated him to work harder. But he did not want to express any anger through social media.

‘I was waiting for the match that would prove to be decisive for the Indian team. All those who love me, they were with me even in difficult days. During that time, I kept all my windows closed, I also kept my phone off, I was not on social media yet. I am still not on social media. That has protected me from the rumors. Very few have been able to talk to me. I think, in the end, it has also benefited me.’
