The 15th edition of the Kandel Consultancy Cup is being held in Melbourne, Australia. This competition, which is considered to be a competition with a large prize pool for the Nepali community in Australia, is being held on March 7 and 8. The competition will be held at the Darebin International Sports Centre in Melbourne.
The competition will be contested in two categories: ‘Open Age’ and ‘Forever Young’. The organizers have stated that teams from various cities in Australia including Sydney, Canberra and Adelaide will participate. The official ‘draw’ of the competition has been made public during a special ceremony. The 16 teams participating in the Open Category have been divided into four groups.
Group ‘A’ includes Homebush Rhino Football Club (Sydney), Khukuri Football Club (Canberra), Nepborne Football Club and Yeti Football Club Rato, while Group ‘B’ includes Siddhakali (Adelaide), United Football Club, Royal Football Club and Himalayan Football Club. Similarly, Everest United, Royal Western, Annie and Chandrasurya Football Club are in Group ‘C’, while Yeti Blue, Jagjit Shrestha Academy (Adelaide), The Himalayan Tigers and Himalayan Youth Club (Sydney) are in Group ‘D’.
This competition, which will be conducted on the basis of a league-cum-knockout system, is said to be the biggest football competition among Nepali clubs in Australia. The winner of the Open category will receive $12,000 and the runner-up will receive $4,500 in cash, along with a trophy and medal. The winner of the ‘Forever Young’ category will receive $2,500 and the runner-up will receive $1,000. Cash prizes have also been arranged in various individual categories. The total prize money of the competition is $22,000 Australian dollars, according to the organizers.
In the final of the 14th edition held last year, Yeti Football Club won the title by defeating Royal Western Club by a margin of 3-2 goals. Famous players who have represented Nepal in the national team will also participate in the competition. Yeti Football Club Vice President and tournament coordinator Sajjan Sharma expressed confidence that the competition will enhance the sense of brotherhood and unity among the Nepali community in Australia.
