Nepal Premier League (NPL) franchise team Janakpur Bolts (JB) has taken the franchise in Belgium's EU T-20. Utsav Sigdel, the team's chief owner, said on Tuesday that he will take ownership of JB Brugge in the competition to be held in Belgium from June 6 to 14. He said that he took the franchise of the Belgian Cricket League from the US with the aim of prioritizing Nepali players. "We believe in giving Nepali players an opportunity in the international arena and providing foreign players with an opportunity to connect with Nepali cricket," Sigdel told Kantipur. He estimates that the first season will cost $1 million. According to him, West Indies' Shivnarayan Chandrapaul will be the team's coach. Janakpur Bolts won the first season of the NPL, but under Chandrapaul's coaching, they finished last in the second season, winning only one game.
Belgium Cricket has already announced Antwerp Anchors, Liège Red Lions and JB Bruges as the teams to play in the EU T20. The promoters for Brussels, Ghent and Leuven are yet to be announced. Destino Legend Sports is organising the tournament in collaboration with Cricket Belgium.
England's World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan is the brand ambassador for the tournament. Sri Lanka's Angelo Mathews, Wanindu Hasaranga, South Africa's Faf du Plessis, Ross van der Dussen, Reeza Hendricks, New Zealand's Tim Southee, England's James Vince and Alex Hales have confirmed their participation in the tournament.
A team will have 16 players. Four of them must be Belgian players. There is a provision that at least one Belgian player must play in the playing XI. There will be 2 matches every day. After the single round robin, there will be playoffs and finals in the 9-day tournament.
It is reported that 16 players from Nepal have been included in the draft list of the EU T-20.
