Nepali tennis player Abhishek Bastola is set to compete in the first playoff of the semifinals of the UTR Pro Tennis Tournament in Bengaluru, India.

Abhishek, who won two consecutive matches on the hard court of Rohan Bopra Tennis Academy in Bengaluru, lost to Indian Neeraj Yashpal in a 2-1 set in 3 hours and 57 minutes. Abhishek lost the first set 2-6 but came back in the second set and tied the match 7-5. Despite competing in the deciding third set for 1 hour and 41 minutes, Abhishek lost 7-6 (9/7). Last November, Abhishek defeated Yashpal in straight sets in Bengaluru.

Earlier, Abhishek, who defeated Jatin Nain and Tarun Karra of India in Group ‘C’ in straight sets, also lost his match against Russian player Artem Bogomolov in straight sets. Now he will compete in the playoff.

This $20,000 prize pool tournament on the UTR Pro Tennis Tour is Abhishek's first event of the season. He previously competed at the PTT Phan Thiet in Vietnam in December. Abhishek has played nearly a dozen tournaments on this tour.
