The 'Kathmandu Pink Care Athon' is to be organized on March 30 with the aim of promoting women's health, fitness and self-awareness.
Women of any age group can participate in the race, which will be held with the aim of inspiring women towards a healthy lifestyle, said Namara Joshi, chairman of the organizing organization, Leisure Port Nepal. At a press conference organized today, chairman Joshi expressed his belief that the race will inspire women who are busy with household chores and daily responsibilities to take time for their own health. 'Women work continuously for their families and society, but they are not able to take time to be aware of their health. We believe that the Pink Care Athon will motivate them to take time for themselves as well,' he said.
The race will include Zumba, music programs and various health-related activities, according to the organizing organization. Senior Medical Oncologist Dr. Sudeep Shrestha highlighted the importance of timely testing and treatment of breast cancer and expressed the view that the competition would help spread awareness. He said, 'Today, breast cancer can be completely cured if detected in its early stages after treatment, but due to busyness and fear, many women arrive at the hospital late. This creates a problem.'
The program, which was organized continuously from 2017 to 2019, was stopped due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been re-run since 2024. The program, which will start at 6:00 am at the playground in Jawalakhel, will include a running competition of distances ranging from five to 21 kilometers.
