Narendra Singh Rawat and Santoshi Shrestha have won first place in the men's and women's open categories of the 14th Dharan 10K Run, held under the slogan 'Charity Run for Education'.
Rawat won the 10-kilometer race on Saturday in 31 minutes 50 seconds and Shrestha in 37 minutes 36 seconds. Shrestha, a gold medalist at the South Asian Marathon and an international half marathon medalist, is also the winner of the 13th edition of the Dharan Run.
In the competition, in which about 3,500 runners participated, Julius Muruki Vahom finished second in 31 minutes 57 seconds, while Amir Limbu finished third in 32 minutes 50 seconds. In the women's race, Pushpa Sherma finished second in 41 minutes 44 seconds, and Priya Chhetri finished third in 42 minutes 3 seconds.
The first, second, and third winners in both the women's and men's categories received cash prizes of Rs 60,000, Rs 40,000, and Rs 30,000, respectively, along with medals and trophies. The winners were awarded by Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City Acting Chief Aindra Bikram Begha, Dharan-18 Ward Chairman Prabin Rai, and singer Raju Lama.
In the Under-16 age group, Jeevan Hang came first, Osan Rai came second and Himal Rai came third, while in the women's group, Juhi Rai came first, Julie Rai came second and Simran Bardeva came third. In the veteran men's group, Sudeep Pradhan came first, Vijay Kumar Rai came second and Resham Limbu came third, while in the veteran women's group, Pratima Rai came first, Jamuna Limbu came second and Kalpana Tamang came third.
The winners of the Under-16 and veteran groups were awarded cash prizes of Rs 7,000, Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000, along with medals and certificates, respectively.
The winners of the wheelchair group were also awarded cash prizes of Rs 7,000, Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000, respectively, medals and certificates, while the Super Veteran winner and runner-up received gift vouchers.
According to Santosh Rai, founder of Dharan Run, the amount collected through this charity run is being used for the health and education of disabled, helpless women and children through the Akshaya Kosh. The funds raised this year will be dedicated to education and the scholarship program for talented and underprivileged students will be continued.
