Sudurpaschim Province has won the men's title in the second national hockey competition.
In the final match of the round-robin league held on Saturday under the floodlights of Dasharath Stadium, Sudurpaschim and Gandaki Province drew 2-2. Sudurpaschim had 12 points and Gandaki Province 9 points. Sudurpaschim was at the top of the table and became the champion. Koshi Province came third with 6 points.
In the women's category, Gandaki came first with 12 points, Sudurpaschim was second with 9 points and Madhesh Province was third with 6 points. The top three finishers in both groups received prizes of 75,000, 50,000 and 25,000 rupees respectively.
In the men's category, Mahesh Nepali of Sudurpaschim was the best player, Sangam Gharti Magar of Gandaki was the best defender, Vivek Joshi of Sudurpaschim was the best goalkeeper, Anish Khadka of Bagmati was the emerging player and Sudeep Chaudhary of Koshi was the top scorer.
In the women's tournament organized by the Nepal Hockey Association, Ankita Adhikari of Gandaki was named the best player, Sanju Magar of Gandaki the best goalkeeper, Karun Thagunna of Sudurpaschim the best defender, and Laxmaniya Kumari Das of Madhesh the emerging player. Babita Oraon of Sudurpaschim was the top scorer.
The winners were awarded by Apsara Chapagain, Deputy Speaker of Bagmati Province, Subarna Shrestha, member of the executive committee of the National Sports Council, and others.
