Namuna and Bishwa Adarsh College have made a winning start to the Namuna Super Cup inter-college Twenty-Twenty cricket tournament in Itahari.
In the opening match held at the Janata Park Cricket Ground in Itahari on Thursday, the host team Namuna College defeated Kosi St. James College by 9 wickets and entered the semi-finals. Batting first after winning the toss, Kosi was bundled out for 61 runs after losing all their wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.
Namuna, who had been given a target of 62 runs, achieved the target losing only 1 wicket in 5.2 balls. Namuna's Subit Mehta was declared the Player of the Match. He bowled 3 overs and took 3 wickets for the cost of 10 runs. In the process, he bowled 1 maiden over.
In the second match held on Thursday, Bishwa Adarsh College of Itahari registered a comprehensive 10-wicket victory over Sushma Godavari College. Batting after winning the toss, Sushma easily achieved the target of 27 runs set by Biswa Adarsh in 1.1 balls. Bhupal Luintel of Biswa Adarsh was declared the Man of the Match in that match. The first match on Friday will be between Mahendra Morang Adarsh Multiple Campus, Biratnagar, and Purbanchal Engineering College, Dharan. The second match will be between Aastha College, Damak, and BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan, informed the tournament coordinator Gaurav Katuwal.
The tournament, which was started with the aim of professional development of cricket in Koshi Province, identifying young talent, and providing fair opportunities to college-level players, is attended by 8 college teams from Jhapa, Morang, and Sunsari.
The tournament, organized by Namuna Blasters, the champion team of Koshi Premier League Season 2, will last for four days. The winning team of the tournament will receive a cash prize of Rs 30,000 and the runner-up team will receive a cash prize of Rs 15,000 along with a trophy. In addition, awards will be given to the best players in categories including 'Man of the Series', 'Best Batsman' and 'Best Bowler'.
