Gandaki Province won the women's category in the second national hockey tournament being held at the Dasharath Stadium on Wednesday.
Gandaki narrowly defeated Sudurpaschim Province by a score of 1-0. Ankita Adhikari scored the only goal for Gandaki in the 30th minute. She was named Player of the Match. The previous day, Sudur had won against Madhesh through Bandana Bhatta's goal. Gandaki is ahead in the standings with two wins.
In the men's side, Madhesh continued its winning streak by defeating Sudurpaschim 3-0. Mahesh Nepali scored two goals for Sudur, who had defeated Bagmati the previous day. He scored in the fourth and 45th minutes. Bharat Tamata scored in the first minute to give the team the lead. Mahesh was named Player of the Match.
In the other match of the day, Gandaki won 3-1 over Bagmati Province. Vivek Gurung scored in the ninth minute, Vishal Kumar in the 39th minute, and Mohan Pun in the 60th minute for Gandaki. James Perry Shrestha scored the only goal for Bagmati in the 40th minute. Player of the Match: Vivek Gurung. In the men's division, Gandaki and Sudurpaschim have taken the lead by winning two matches each.
Six teams are competing in the men's division and five in the women's division of the tournament, organized by the Nepal Hockey Association. The top three teams in both groups will receive cash prizes of Rs 75,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.
