While appearing before the media a day before the Twenty20 World Cup 2026 match against Italy, he said, ”I think some Nepali players will now be selected for the IPL.”
Nepali team captain Rohit Poudel came to the press room at the Balasaheb Stadium in Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday and claimed that Nepali players are capable of playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) based on their performance and qualifications.
While appearing before the media a day before the Twenty20 World Cup 2026 match against Italy, he said, ‘I think some Nepali players will now be selected for the IPL.’
He also said that after Nepal’s brilliant performance in the last match against England, everyone’s attention has been on the Nepali team. He said, ‘Two years ago in the World Cup, we were very close to winning against South Africa.’ Now, the situation is the same against England. I think both these matches have helped increase the reputation of Nepali cricket in world cricket. Both these matches have kept us in the news.’
Saying this, he also complained that Nepali cricket has not got as many opportunities as expected in international cricket at the top level. His argument was, ‘Since the last World Cup, we have only been able to play against the West Indies. This was the only series against a Test team. We want as many opportunities as possible. What we demand is not too many days, but at least a few series against Test teams every year.’
He also said that big teams like England and Australia are welcome in Kathmandu. He said, ‘I think it would mean a lot if these big teams come to Nepal.’
He claimed that his team and players had increased confidence after the match against England and said that a similar good performance was needed against Italy. He said, ‘Italy is also a good team, they have been playing some good cricket recently.’
