Kathmandu (Kash) – Koshi Province has won the title of the Bikash Shield National Deaf Football Tournament. Koshi defeated Bagmati Province (B) 3-1 in the final held at the Dasharath Stadium on Monday.
The winner's Neeraj Shrestha scored two goals and Rohan Khadka scored one. Bagmati's captain Sanjit Shrestha scored a goal after falling behind 2-0. Koshi received a trophy along with Rs 50,000 and Bagmati received Rs 40,000. Similarly, Sudurpaschim Province won the third place by defeating Bagmati Province (A) 3-2 in a penalty shootout. After the match ended 1-1 after the scheduled 60 minutes, the match was decided by a penalty shootout. Sudurpaschim received Rs 30,000 along with the trophy. The winning team was awarded by Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan.
Hearing-impaired people can also play football and Sundar Dhoka Sathi Sewa has organized the first-ever deaf football tournament at the national level with the aim of promoting disability sports.
It is believed that the tournament will also play a role in changing the way deaf people are viewed in society.
