Rajan Rokaya has won the title of the 11th Chief of Army Staff Open Marathon Competition.
In the marathon held in the capital on Saturday, Rajan won the title by completing the stipulated distance in 2 hours 15 minutes 53 seconds. Another Army runner, Khadga Bahadur Khadka, who followed him, came second. He completed the race in 2 hours 17 minutes 11 seconds.
Army runner Sushil Kumar Shali came third in 2 hours 18 minutes 27 seconds. Rajan, who has been winning the competition titles consecutively, received a prize of Rs 3 lakh along with a Yamaha motorcycle. Khadga received Rs 2 lakh and Sushil received Rs 1 lakh.
In the men's open half marathon, Gajindra Rai of the Army won the title by completing the stipulated distance in 1 hour 4 minutes 45 seconds. In the women's half marathon, Santoshi Shrestha, a runner from Dhading, won the title in 1 hour 14 minutes 31 seconds.
Both received a prize of Rs 1 lakh along with a motorcycle. In the men's half marathon, Narendra Rawal and Arjun Budha of the Army and in the women's half marathon, Nisha Sarki and Nirmala KC of the Army came second and third, respectively. The second and third runners received Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively. The Nepali Army organized the marathon with the slogan 'Strong Unity, Safe Nation'.
