Tribhuvan Army Football Club has entered the quarterfinals of the 7th Extreme Jhapa Gold Cup football tournament by defeating defending champions Church Boys United 3-0.

In the match held at Domalal Rajbanshi Stadium in Jhapa on Sunday, Army took the lead from the start and won easily.

Army took the lead in the 27th minute of the match. Navin Lama scored an attractive one-touch goal from Dinesh Henjan's cross pass. Army doubled the lead in the injury time of the first half. Captain Gillespie Jung Karki's pass was converted into a goal by Nawayug Shrestha's acrobatic shot.

Army's pressure continued in the second half as well. George Prince Karki's free kick from about 25 yards of the field went straight into the net, giving Army a clear 3-0 lead.

In the 32nd minute of the match, Army's Kushal Deuba's powerful shot was saved by Church Boys goalkeeper Deep Karki. Despite having a clear lead in possession, Army could not score any more goals. Church Boys, who entered the field with three foreign players, could not create much pressure on the opposing post. Church Boys players looked helpless against Army. In the 21st minute of the game, foreign player Zidane Nah's shot from inside the box was saved by Army goalkeeper Vikesh Kuthu.

Army, considered a contender for the title, is the winner of the four seasons of the tournament held at this stadium. Church Boys, who have been participating since last season, won the title in their first participation. But this time, Church Boys were eliminated from the tournament in the first round after losing to Army.

Army's Naveen Lama was declared the 'Player of the Match' of the game. He received a cash prize of Rs 25,000.

In the first quarter-final match on Monday, Jhapa-11 Football Club and India's Singling Sporting Club (Sikkim) will face each other.

The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of Rs. 1.5 million and the runner-up will receive Rs. 750,000. The best player of the competition will receive a Yamaha motorcycle, the organizers have said. Similarly, the best coach, top scorer and best goalkeeper will be awarded Rs. 35,000 each.
