Mahendra Jyoti Alumni Forum Farak and Khunde Community Club played out a 1-1 draw in the 15th Khumbu Lhosar Cup football tournament that began on Saturday at the ANFA Complex in Satdobato.

Pasang Gyaljen Sherpa of the organizing forum was declared the Player of the Match. He scored the goal. The competition was inaugurated by Sonam Gyaljen Sherpa, a member of the National Assembly. The chairman of the organizing forum, Fur Gyalje Sherpa, expressed his gratitude to those who directly/indirectly supported the organization of the competition.

Pemba Chhiri, general secretary of the organizing forum, said that the competition has succeeded in sending a message that the Sherpas are not only good at mountain climbing but also in the field of sports.

Eight teams, including one from the organizing party, are participating in the league knockout competition. The top three finishers in the competition, organized on the auspicious occasion of the New Year Gyalbo Lhosar, will receive prizes of Rs 150,000, Rs 80,000 and Rs 40,000 respectively.

Born in various villages of Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality in Solukhumbu and currently residing in Kathmandu, Sherpa youth started a football tournament on the occasion of Lhosar in 2009 with the aim of making good use of their free time during the winter.
