The host Jhapa-11 Football Club has made a great comeback and made it to the quarterfinals of the Extreme 7th Jhapa Gold Cup Football Tournament.

Jhapa-11 defeated Nepal Police Club 2-1 in the opening match at the Domalal Rajbanshi Stadium on Saturday. Shishir Lekhi and Rajesh Dahal scored one goal each in Jhapa's victory after trailing 1-0.

Police took the lead in the 12th minute of the match. John Bista scored with one touch from Dhirendra Sah's cross. Jhapa equalized in the first half's injury time. Shishir Lekhi, who was unmarked inside the box, converted Rajesh Dahal's shot.

Rajesh Dahal scored the decisive goal with his head in Shishir Lekhi's free kick in the 59th minute. That goal was enough for Jhapa's victory.

Police are out of the competition after failing to make good use of the opportunities they got. In the 35th minute, Vijay Urau's shot was blocked by Jhapa goalkeeper Sandeep Limbu, while in the 52nd minute, Birendra Sah's shot was also barely saved by the goalkeeper. Police wasted the opportunity they got when the goalkeeper was advancing in the 57th minute.

Jhapa's Aaron Thapa Magar's header from the D-area in the 41st minute hit the crossbar. Jhapa maintained pressure on Police by displaying technical play throughout the game.

Jhapa's Rajesh Dahal was declared the player of the match. He received a cash prize of Rs 25,000.

A match will be held between Tribhuvan Army Football Club and Church Boys United on Sunday.

The winner of the competition will receive Rs 1.5 million and the runner-up will receive Rs 750,000. The best player will be awarded a Yamaha motorcycle. The best coach, top scorer and best goalkeeper will each receive Rs 35,000, according to the organizers.

Nepal Police, APF, Tribhuvan Army, Machhindra Club, Laligurans Association Pokhara, Church Boys United, the organizer Jhapa-11 and clubs from India, Bhutan and Malaysia are participating in the competition.

The competition was inaugurated by Birtamod Municipality Mayor Pavitra Mahatara Prasain.

At the inauguration ceremony, Sampati Rajbanshi, the daughter of the stadium's landowner family, was presented with 1,01,000 rupees. In addition, a statue of Domalal Rajbanshi was unveiled and a march was held in honor of former president Binod Basnet.
