Defending champion NRT Budhasubba Gold Cup eliminated in quarterfinals

Three-time champion New Road Team NRT has been eliminated in the quarterfinals of the 26th edition of the international invitational Budhasubba Gold Cup.

In the first quarterfinal on Saturday, Kathmandu's Planning Boys United, who were promoted to the A Division this year, lost 2-0 to NRT Budhasubba Gold Cup quarterfinals.

Foreign players Kebe and Shyam Murmu scored goals for Planning Boys in the match held at Dharan Stadium. Kebe scored in the 43rd minute and Murmu in the 86th minute of the match. Planning Boys' goalkeeper Yogesh Dhimal was declared the man of the match and received a cash prize of Rs 10,000.

Planning Boys will now compete with the winner of the first semifinal between hosts Dharan Football Club and Pokhara's Laligurans FC to be held next Wednesday. Hosts Dharan defeated visiting team Georgian Football Club Bharat in the opening match to enter the quarterfinals, while Laligurans got a bye and made their way to the last eight. 

In the second quarterfinal to be held on Sunday, the departmental team Nepal Police Club will face last year's runner-up Church Boys United, said Pratap Tamang, president of the host Dharan Football Club. 

Earlier, Jhapa 11 has already entered the quarterfinals by defeating Boyoyl Thimphu Football Club Bhutan by a 2-0 goal margin on Friday. The final match of the tournament will be held on Falgun 2. The winning team of the final will receive a cash prize of Rs 1 million, while the runner-up team will receive a prize of Rs 5 million.
