Sri Lanka Cricket President Samani Silva has written a letter to the Pakistan Cricket Board requesting it to reconsider its decision to boycott the match against India in the 2026 Twenty20 World Cup.
The Group A match of the tournament is scheduled to be played between Pakistan and India on February 15. The Pakistani board has not yet officially said that it will not play the match against India.
But Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had supported Bangladesh and said that they would not play the match against India. After Bangladesh said that they would not play in India, citing security reasons, the International Cricket Council (ICC) removed them from the tournament.
According to Sri Lankan media, President Silva has said that the match between Pakistan and India is very important financially. President Silva has also threatened that if the match is not held, it will force Pakistani cricket to bear a huge financial loss.
After Pakistan announced that it would not play the match against India, flights and hotel bookings to Sri Lanka have started getting canceled one after another. Recalling that Sri Lanka helped when Pakistani cricket was in trouble, President Silva has said that additional security arrangements will be provided if the match against India takes place.
