The host Dharan Football Club informed that the preparations for the tournament have been completed through a press conference held on Tuesday.
For the first time, 10 teams will participate in the tournament to be held at the Dharan Stadium from next Thursday to Falgun 2. The opening match of the tournament has been scheduled to be between the host Dharan Football Club and the visiting team Georgian Football Club (India).
The Indian team along with Bhutan's Royal Thimphu Football FC will arrive in Dharan on Wednesday to participate in the tournament, informed club president Pratap Tamang. The winning team of the tournament will receive a cash prize of Rs 1 million, while the runner-up will receive Rs 5 million.
Both prize moneys have been provided by the Dharan Sub-metropolitan City. The organizer has stated that the administration has given permission to conduct the Gold Cup with certain conditions while the election code of conduct has been implemented.
The District Administration Office has given permission with conditions such as not allowing candidates for the House of Representatives election to be held on Falgun 21 to make speeches at the stadium and not allowing them to go to the stadium to ask for votes. The organizer has expressed a commitment to complete the competition in full compliance with the code of conduct.
The international invitational Buddha Subba Gold Cup, which began in 2055 BS, is considered one of the prestigious competitions in Nepali football. For the organizer Dharan Football Club, the Gold Cup title has always been a story of 'lack and waiting'. Dharan Football Club has been deprived of the title in the competition held at its own ground so far.
Despite making it to the final five times, it has had to be limited to the runner-up every time. Club President Tamang says that the club is preparing hard with the goal of winning the title this time.
Tamang said that the excitement of the 26th edition of the Budhasubba Gold Cup, which has become a hallmark of Nepali football, is increasing as the tournament approaches and the team is preparing accordingly.
