The construction of Dhangadhi Oval, an international standard cricket ground with private sector investment, has reached its final stage in Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City of Kailali, which has been introducing itself as the 'City of Cricket'.
The construction of a ground under construction in Boradandi, Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City-3, with the investment of cricket entrepreneurs Subash Shahi and Mohan Saund, has reached its final stage. The construction of the ground was started eight months ago. So far, the work of filling and leveling the ground and installing wire mesh around it has been completed.
A 360-degree drainage system has been prepared for the irrigation of the ground. Work on the pitch construction has also started from Monday. 'We have started the construction of four pitches in the first phase,' said investor Shahi while laying the foundation stone of the pitch. 'The goal is to complete all the work of the first phase by next Baisakh and bring the ground to the trial phase.' He said that there is a plan to build the Dhangadhi Oval, which is connected to the Ring Road of Dhangadhi, in three phases.
The ground will come into operation as soon as the first phase is completed. In the second phase, a player changing room, pavilion, dugout and nets for practice will be constructed. Shahi said that there are plans to construct parapets, floodlights and a coffee shop in the third phase. Shahi, who is also the chairman of Dhangadhi Cricket Academy, said that the concept of developing the river side has been put forward as there is a perennial estuary river to the west. Shahi, who is also the chairman of Dhangadhi Cricket Academy, said that about Rs 10 million has been spent in the first phase and Shahi estimates that more than Rs 150 million will be invested when all three phases are completed.
International pitch curator Madhav Pathak is looking after the entire technical aspect of the ground construction. According to curator Pathak, the boundary size of the ground is more than 65 to 75 meters. ‘Soil testing, slope of the field and pitch construction have all been done as per international standards,’ Pathak said, ‘This is why national and international level competitions can be held here.’
The Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the FAPLA International Cricket Stadium and Sports Village under construction in Dhangadhi has already been prepared. The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report has also been approved and the work of felling trees is also in preparation to move forward, said Shahi, who is also the chairman of the Sports Village. ‘Auxiliary grounds are required for practice during the construction of the international stadium and after its operation,’ he said, ‘Dhangadi Oval can be used as an alternative ground even during the construction.’ Stating that there is a distinct craze for cricket in the Far West, Shahi said that even franchise players of competitions like Arjun Trophy, DPL and NPL can practice here.
Informing that local teams from neighboring India's Delhi, Kolkata, Lucknow and Mumbai are interested in playing with the Dhangadhi Cricket Academy, he said that there is a plan to create a package to visit the tourist sites here by playing 5-6 series.
