SAFF U-19 Women's Championship: Nepal loses 1-0 to India

Host Nepal lost 1-0 to India in their first match of the SAFF U-19 Women's Championship, which began on Saturday at the Pokhara Stadium.

The only goal scored by India's Pearl Fernandes in the 49th minute of the match proved decisive.

Although the first half ended goalless, India took the lead early in the second half by taking advantage of the weakness of the defense. India kept the home team Nepal under pressure by controlling the ball throughout the match.

Nepal, who came into the field under the captaincy of Sushila KC, created some limited opportunities but could not score. In the second half, the Indian team took control of the game by making some important changes.

The Nepali team, led by coach Suman Shrestha, could not turn the result in their favor despite the support of their home ground and the audience. India had a balanced performance in both the defensive and offensive aspects in the match. India has participated in this tournament, which is a preparation for the upcoming AFC U-17 Women's Asian Cup.

In the opening match of the championship held on Saturday, defending champion Bangladesh has started off with a win by defeating Bhutan by a huge margin of 12-0.

In this tournament, which is being conducted in a single round-robin system, Nepal will now face Bhutan in its second match on Monday. The first match on Monday will be between Bangladesh and India. They will compete in the final for the title on 24 Magh.
